Joanna Jaworek-Korjakowska from the AGH Faculty of Computer Science has been awarded the title of professor. The distinction marks an important milestone in a research career dedicated to artificial intelligence, particularly its applications in medicine, image analysis, and the interpretability and explainability of AI models.

Prof. Joanna Jaworek-Korjakowska is Director of the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence at AGH University of Krakow. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence, including deep learning, anomaly detection, clustering, and the interpretability and explainability of AI solutions. In 2019, she obtained her habilitation in technical sciences for research on the application of artificial intelligence methods to the early detection of melanoma.

Throughout her academic career, she has combined fundamental research with the development of practical applications of emerging technologies. She has coordinated and participated in numerous national and international research projects funded through programmes including NCN, NCBR, EPSRC, FAST Healthcare Network Plus, DAAD, the National Institutes of Health and NAWA. As a recipient of a NAWA Bekker Fellowship, she conducted research at Stanford University in the United States. She is also an alumna of the TOP 500 Innovators programme at Stanford University.

Prof. Jaworek-Korjakowska is an expert at the Confederation of Laboratories for Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe (CLAIRE) and serves as Chair of the Scientific Council of NASK – National Research Institute.

Her scientific achievements have received numerous distinctions, including an Honorable Mention Award at CVPR 2019 (ISIC Workshop), a scholarship from the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young researchers for 2017–2020, and individual awards from the Rector of AGH University for outstanding publication achievements.

An important part of her academic work is also the education and supervision of the next generation of researchers. As a PhD supervisor, she supports young scientists working in areas including artificial intelligence, image analysis and anomaly detection.

We warmly congratulate Prof. Joanna Jaworek-Korjakowska on this outstanding achievement and wish her continued success in her scientific career.
