We invite you to the next seminar in the “Nature-Inspired Computing Methods” series. Our guest will be Prof. Stanisław Matwin from Dalhousie University in Canada and the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences, who will give a talk entitled “AI 2026: Where Are We and Where Are We Heading?”.

The talk will begin with an assessment of the current state of artificial intelligence, using a specific metric to measure AI “capability”. Prof. Matwin will also address the question of where AI can derive creativity from, highlighting genetic algorithms as one of its potential sources.

In the second part of the seminar, Prof. Matwin will draw on the eighth UNESCO Science Report, to which he contributed as the author responsible for the section on artificial intelligence. Against the backdrop of major global trends in science, technology and innovation, he will discuss AI from the perspective of “creative destruction” – a process in which new innovations replace existing technologies and contribute to long-term economic growth. The final part of the talk will return to the risks associated with AI, with particular emphasis on its potential impact on the labour market.

Stanisław Matwin is Professor Emeritus at Dalhousie University, Distinguished University Professor at the University of Ottawa, and Professor at the Institute of Computer Science of the Polish Academy of Sciences. His research interests include artificial intelligence, machine learning, text mining and analytics, big data, and data privacy. He has authored and co-authored more than 250 scientific publications, founded the Institute for Big Data Analytics at Dalhousie University, and is a former President of the Canadian Artificial Intelligence Association (CAIAC). He is a recipient of the CAIAC Lifetime Achievement Award and has collaborated with the Faculty of Computer Science and the AI research community at AGH for many years.

The seminar will be held in Polish.
