A research team from the Department of Computer Science at AGH has received the Best Paper Award at the prestigious ICAISC 2025 – International Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Soft Computing.
The awarded paper, titled “TOPSIS-like metaheuristic for LABS”, authored by Aleksandra Urbańczyk, Bogumiła Papiernik, Piotr Magiera, Piotr Urbańczyk, and Aleksander Byrski, was presented by Aleksandra Urbańczyk during the scientific session. The work focuses on improving the performance of evolutionary algorithms in solving the LABS (Low Autocorrelation Binary Sequence) problem.
Standard evolutionary algorithms often get trapped in local minima or converge too quickly on suboptimal solutions. To address this, the paper introduces a novel class of mutation operators called socio-cognitive mutations, inspired by the popular TOPSIS decision-making method. Instead of exploring the solution space at random, these mutations guide new solutions toward the best individuals and away from the worst ones.
This strategy enhances population diversity and reduces the risk of premature convergence, making the algorithms more robust in finding high-quality solutions.
We congratulate the entire team on this outstanding achievement and wish them continued research success!
