We are pleased to announce that Michał Jamroż, PhD, a graduate of the doctoral program at the Faculty of Computer Science, AGH University, has been awarded the 2024 Prize for the Best Polish PhD Thesis in Artificial Intelligence, organized by the Polish Society for Artificial Intelligence (PSSI). The thesis was supervised by professor Marcin Kurdziel.

In his dissertation, Michał Jamroż focused on analyzing the internal mechanisms of modern artificial intelligence models. Using probabilistic tools, he examined the complexity and structure of data representations in popular architectures such as convolutional neural networks and variational autoencoders.

One of the key findings of his research is the demonstration that neural networks learn different data classes in distinctly different ways – which affects their ability to memorize, generalize, and resist adversarial attacks. The culmination of his work was the proposal of a novel method that improves the robustness and reliability of AI models in practical applications.

We sincerely congratulate both the author and the supervisor of the awarded thesis, and we wish them continued scientific success!
